GenialSIS 2.0: Use “Open Signed” Process to Sign Symbian S60/UIQ Software on Windows

Nokia S60, Sony Ericsson UIQ, Symbian

Symbian has overhauled the signature process for signing Nokia S60 and Sony Ericsson UIQ applications and games for consumers in the form of a new service called Open Signed Beta. One of the advantages of this process is that you can simply upload software to Symbian’s website and sign it without even creating an account. A drawback is that you cannot yet sign applications which are using an unprotected UID range, which includes programs that have been cracked.

The Symbian Weblog has a step by step tutorial on how to use a freeware Windows tool called GenialSis (v2.0) to use Open Signed to sign S60 and UIQ freeware:

1) Download and install GenialSiS 2.0 from here.

2) Open the GenialSiS executable on your computer, select OpenSigned and choose the Symbian software you want to sign. Do not choose more than one software at a time.

3) Enter your email address and IMEI number in the respective fields.

4) Click on Sign. You will be prompted to enter the CAPTCHA security code that can be manually typed and confirmed.

5) After your file has been uploaded, Symbian will send you a confirmation email and later on, the download link for the OpenSigned signed application.

The blog post also mentions a list of applications and software that can be signed using Symbian “Open Signed”.
